A factory audit is an independent, on-site check of a supplier’s real capability, capacity and systems — done before you place a large order, so you find the problems on the factory floor instead of in your shipments.

What is a factory audit?
A factory audit verifies that a manufacturer is who they claim to be and can do what they promise — legal business license, real production lines (not a trading company sub-contracting out), machinery, headcount, and quality systems.
It’s the cheapest way to avoid the most expensive mistake in importing: wiring a deposit to a factory that can’t actually make your product.

Social compliance audit — labor and ethical standards
A social compliance audit checks working conditions, labor practices, health & safety and environmental basics against recognized frameworks (BSCI, Sedex/SMETA, SA8000). MFE runs the independent on-site audit and prepares the evidence; for formal certification we pre-audit and coordinate the accredited body — so you go into a certification audit already knowing you’ll pass. Quality system audit — does the QMS actually work?
A quality system audit goes beyond a single order to check whether the factory’s quality management system (often ISO 9001) is real and followed: documented procedures, incoming-material control, non-conformance handling, traceability and corrective action. A supplier with a working QMS gives you consistent quality; one with a certificate on the wall and nothing behind it does not.

Factory audit vs product inspection — what's the difference?
An audit checks the supplier (capability and systems, usually before first order). An inspection checks the goods in a specific order against spec and AQL. Most buyers audit once up front, then inspect every shipment.
